Welcome to the California Film Commission

As we begin the second year of Program 4.0, I’m encouraged by the momentum we’re seeing across California. Over the past year, we’ve worked together to modernize our tax credit program, strengthen our competitiveness, and reaffirm that California is committed to the future of film and television production. Today, we’re seeing those efforts translate into real results.

In its first year, Program 4.0 welcomed 170 projects that are expected to generate more than $6.6 billion in direct production spending throughout the state. Just as encouraging, demand for the program continues to grow, with application volume increasing 82% over the previous year. That’s a strong signal that producers recognize California is once again making meaningful investments in keeping production-and the jobs and small businesses it supports-here at home.

We’re also beginning to see that momentum reflected in production activity. According to FilmLA, television production in Los Angeles increased 34.4% in the second quarter compared with the first, with television dramas rising more than 55%. Productions participating in our tax credit program accounted for more than a third of all television drama shoot days during the quarter-a reminder that thoughtful public policy can make a meaningful difference.

There is still work to do, and we remain focused on building on this progress. But it’s exciting to see more productions choosing California, more crews getting back to work, and more communities benefiting from the economic activity our industry creates.
